One Day Ringing Course, Steeple Aston, Oxfordshire,
Saturday, 26th October 2024

Are you learning Plain Bob Doubles or Grandsire Doubles? Do you want some more practice?
Do you want to move on to Triples or Major??

If so, then this ringing course at Steeple Aston organised by the Guild, is the one for you!

Ailsa Knightley writes: “Many of you have been coming along to my Bob Doubles practices. Can I commend this course to you! (It also offers Grandsire Doubles and 7- & 8-bell ringing).

Last year I took a couple of people so was able to witness first hand what happens. The morning started with a really useful theory session, which for those of you who have been learning for a while might be especially useful. It puts all the little bits and pieces together for you.

You then visit 3 towers and ring with a team of really experienced ringers. (I have offered myself, Sherri and Evie as helpers, and John Chantler from Bierton has offered, so you may even know someone helping in your group!) At each tower each person rang twice, but in between you can watch or discuss with others.

There is a cost for the course and you have to buy lunch in a pub (which was very nice!) If your tower has funds maybe they could help? We at Stewkley try to pay the course fee and ask ringers to pay for their own lunch.

Please consider if you can do this course!! It isn’t as intimidating as I thought it would be and everyone genuinely wants to help you.

The Poster, (above-right), is available to download here as a PDF.

The cost of the course is £30 which includes tower donations and a 2-course evening meal. Lunch is separate and is arranged by the individual groups.

Application forms are available on the Guild website or can be downloaded here in the latest version of Microsoft ‘Word’. The latest version of Word Documents may not be able to be opened and edited on older computers or those running a Mac. A PDF version of the application form is available to download here but it will need to be printed, filled by hand and scanned before sending to Jo Druce at joannedruce2@gmail.com .

The closing date of applications is 31st August 2024.

How Ringing Works.

The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers has released a booklet entitled ‘From Practice to Perfect’. It contains a lot of useful information about how church bells ringers are trained, safeguarded and organised and, although it is aimed primarily at the clergy, PCCs and safeguarding advisors, please take time to have a look as it may be useful within your towers.

A copy may be downloaded here as a ‘pdf’ file.
